Chris Martin admits he enjoyed silencing ‘absolutely rocking’ Elland Road

Leeds United threw away three points at the weekend as Derby County snatched a late equaliser at Elland Road.

Despite dominating the game, Leeds failed to take several chances to kill the game off, including a missed penalty from Mateusz Klich.

Substitute Chris Martin then scored a late equaliser to give Derby an undeserved share of the spoils and frustrate the Elland Road crowd.

Speaking to the official Derby County website over the weekend, Martin admitted he enjoyed silencing an ‘absolutely rocking’ Elland Road.

He also spoke of how Leeds needed to kill the game off, suggesting an inevitability to Derby scoring an equaliser after Klich’s missed penalty and Patrick Bamford’s wasted chances.

“Leeds will be disappointed that they’ve not killed the game off but that’s how it works. You saw that shift in momentum more so from the fans after the penalty miss.

“There was a little bit of a lull because in the first half this place was absolutely rocking. It’s what we’ve tried to talk about before the game.

“If we had periods of pressure then we could quiet them down but we managed to save it right until the end.”

Leeds United no full well they should have come away with all three points from this game.

It was a disappointing end to what was a strong performance from Marcelo Bielsa’s men but not killing teams off will continue to cost them throughout the season.

Martin, it seems, was inspired by the fact Leeds had failed to secure the three points and used that to spur him on and claim a draw.

Leeds will hope to capitalise on their vociferous home support with a more ruthless edge when they face West Brom at home next Tuesday.
