Chris Kirkland makes Liverpool transfer suggestion for summer

Chris Kirkland has suggested that in the next transfer window Liverpool need to bring in more options in the final third to provide competition for the front three.

The Reds have developed a famous attacking trio in recent years that has become feared across Europe and is one of the most scintillating that Anfield has ever seen.

Manager Jurgen Klopp has built a forward line consisting of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane as winger, with Roberto Firmino in the centre-forward role holding it together.

The three players have scored a combined total of 49 goals across all competitions so far this season for the Merseyside outfit and the club is on the verge of a first Premier League title, albeit fixtures have been suspended until the beginning of April due to the outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19).

Ex-Reds goalkeeper Kirkland believes that Liverpool could do with more attacking ammunition though behind their man men despite the heroics on Merseyside.

“I think I’ll be surprised if they don’t [sign anyone] you know; the attacking department, the front three are incredible. When one of them’s not performing and the other two do but when you’re going to go through spells where them front three are not performing and you’re going to need replacements,” Kirkland told LoveSport Radio.

“I’d be amazed if they don’t go out and buy somebody else in the summer. You can’t stand still in football… and I’m sure we’ll be making signings so it will be interesting what we’re doing this summer.”

TBR’s View:

It’s going to be hard for any player to build up ahead of steam at Liverpool when they’ve got to try get in ahead of Salah, Mane and Firmino.

Divock Origi has proven to be a decent replacement at striker, but Xherdan Shaqiri has struggled in his role as an impact player in the squad and Klopp mainly has to turn to his talented youngsters from the academy instead.

It would be a major statement if Liverpool went out to sign another top-class forward to supplement their squad and the ability to rotate more could improve them even further.
