Chris Kamara discusses Marcelo Bielsa’s loyalty to Leeds players

Chris Kamara has insisted that Leeds United fans need to trust manager Marcelo Bielsa when it comes to his decision making around team selection.

The Whites has had a fairly settled side in recent times, which has seen them win four games on the bounce to strengthen their hold on second in the Championship table.

They still have 10 games left though to remain in the automatic promotion spots and third-placed Fulham are only five points adrift of them.

Kamara, who is a Sky Sports pundit and ex-Leeds midfielder, has pointed out a potential frustration around Bielsa’s loyalty to centre-forward Patrick Bamford.

The 26-year-old striker is an ever-present in the starting XI, but despite his phenomenal work-rate he’s not scored in seven league games.

His return of 12 league goals this campaign is decent, but it should be far higher considering the amount of chances the team usually make.

“I think that loyalty and faith has been shown in some of the players who at times haven’t warranted it but at last it’s coming to fruition for them,” Kamara told Leeds Live.

“I live in Wakefield near Leeds and most of my friends are Leeds fans. One week they are tearing their hair out about (Patrick) Bamford and the next week they are saying, ‘great stuff’.

“With someone like Bielsa, he keeps a level opinion on those things. You have to trust him. He knows exactly what he’s doing and Leeds fans are beginning to believe that.”

The Bamford debate is one that has rumbled on all season, but ultimately Leeds sit second in the Championship with him as their main forward and he fits the style that Bielsa wants.

Tyler Roberts has surely thrown his name into contention after two goals off the bench in the 4-0 away win over Hull City last weekend, but it won’t be any surprise to see Bamford get the nod once again this Saturday against Huddersfield Town.

Bielsa is overall adored by the Leeds fanbase and they won’t care about his stubbornness if he gets them promoted back to the Premier League.
