Last January, Sunderland were being linked with a move for the USA international Emerson Hyndman. As reported by Sky Sports, the Black Cats contacted Bournemouth over the availability of the central midfielder, with the hope of signing the player on loan until the end of the season.
No deal ever happened, with Ovie Ejaria arriving from Liverpool instead. Sunderland went on to suffer relegation whilst the young midfielder remained at Dean Court.
One year down the line, could Sunderland swoop again?

Hyndman spent the first half of the season on loan in Scotland with Hibernian. That deal has now come to an end and Hyndman looks set for either another loan move or the second half of the season in the Bournemouth under-23s.
Sunderland could offer him an escape route. Undoubtedly, Sunderland boss Jack Ross will know all about him from his excellent previous loan spell in his native Scotland. Hyndman was voted Rangers Young Player of the Year in 2016-17 after an impressive half-season loan at Ibrox.
Sunderland are looking to improve on their squad this winter but finances remain strict at the Stadium of Light. If Sunderland were to reignite their interest under Chris Coleman they could get their hands on an impressive midfield option.
