Chris Coleman was keen to point out on Sky Sports (broadcast on 7/3; 21:00) that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg had been excellent during Tottenham Hotspur’s emphatic win over Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Jose Mourinho’s men made it four wins on the bounce in some style at the weekend. Braces from both Gareth Bale and Harry Kane ensured that they beat the Eagles 4-1.

Spurs played some scintillating football going forward. But they also battled to ensure that they held onto the lead when the game was in the balance.

As shown by Whoscored, Sergio Reguilon, Lucas Moura, Erik Lamela and Hojbjerg made 18 successful tackles between them. That was the same number that the entire Palace team managed in total.

And as the full-time whistle loomed, Coleman was keen to ensure that the Dane received the plaudits he deserved for his contribution in the middle of the park.

“Hojbjerg’s been excellent again tonight, does so much work for Tottenham that goes unnoticed to many,” he told Sky Sports. “But you know what, he’s so good at breaking up bits of play from the opposition. He’s good in possession. He’s excellent in front of his centre-backs. Another impressive performance.”

There seems to be little more to say about the season Hojbjerg has enjoyed. There is no question that the £102,000-a-week star has been an outstanding signing for Tottenham.

And he continues to step up now that expectations have increased. His consistency has been crucial to Mourinho’s men throughout the campaign.

And his presence in that midfield was surely one of the reasons that Tottenham fans were able to see the best out of the likes of Bale and Kane in front of goal.
