Report: Chelsea willing to pay £40m to beat Arsenal to 'exceptional' midfield talent

Chelsea are willing to front up £40m to sign AC Milan midfielder, Ismael Bennacer, according to reports from Alfredo Pedulla.

Bennacer is one of the stars of the show for Milan, but that form has come with interest. Arsenal have been credited with holding an interest in recent weeks. Indeed, a bizarre report even suggested the Gunners might offer up Thomas Partey in order to do a deal.

Whether or not Arsenal like Bennacer that much they offer Partey remains to be seen. But according to Pedulla, Chelsea do admire Bennacer and are willing to bid around £40m to bring him to Stamford Bridge.

Described as being ‘exceptional‘ by ScoutedFTBL, Bennacer is clearly a wanted man. Chelsea are willing to pay the money in January, while Liverpool are also credited with holding a past interest in Pedulla’s report.

Of course, all eyes on the Premier League when it comes to January. A number of clubs are expected to be busy.

Tottenham and Arsenal are expected to spend. Chelsea have a new owner in Todd Boehly who is keen to show his wealth off. Liverpool, meanwhile, are desperate to bring in a new midfielder if they can.

TBR’s View: Chelsea will be a problem for Arsenal in January

The Blues are going to spend some serious cash in the next few windows. And with that, it brings a problem for Arsenal and other teams looking to strengthen.

Most of the players getting mentioned will likely feature on the lists of Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea somewhere. That’s just the market they are all in.

But Chelsea’s new owners are willing to show their might and that will be an issue. You do feel if bids are there to be made, then Chelsea won’t be scared to put up big sums.

With Ismael Bennacer, it seems it’s one to very much keep an eye on in London.
