Report: Chelsea now want 'absolutely incredible' £30m player and will watch him closely in Qatar
Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and will have him watched closely in the World Cup.
Pickford has firmly established himself as England’s number one and has been in fine form for Everton once again.
However, that form was always going to attract attention and now, Chelsea are casting admiring glances. According to The Sun, Chelsea will keep a close eye on Pickford over in Qatar. It’s believed the Blues are looking for a new number one after being unconvinced by both Mendy and Kepa recently.
Pickford, who Frank Lampard dubbed as ‘superb‘ following a performance against Liverpool, is certainly one of the top Premier League stoppers.
However, Chelsea could face a battle to sign him. Pickford is said to be happy enough at Goodison Park and is open to signing a brand new contract with the Toffees.
Everton turned heads when they splashed out £30m on Pickford. But the England man has been outstanding since that move, firmly putting himself on top of the pile. The Toffees won’t want to lose Pickford but it’s claimed the idea of Champions League football, plus a bumper praise, could tempt the goalkeeper south.
TBR’s View: Pickford would be brilliant at Chelsea
There is absolutely no doubt that Pickford is now one of the Premier League’s main goalkeepers. He’s been consistently excellent and for England, he is a different animal.
Pickford would be fine with Chelsea. Sure, there is different pressures but he’s shown with England he can handle those pressures.
Chelsea seem to be reluctant to really throw their weight behind both Mendy and Kepa. But in Pickford, they’d have a goalkeeper they know can deliver. The big problem really is getting Everton to sell.
A good World Cup for Pickford, though, could well instigate a bid from the Blues.
