Report: Chelsea want to beat Arsenal to £34m left-footer; he played in all his countries games in Qatar

Chelsea are once again being linked with a move for Ecuadorian defender, Piero Hincapie, after his impressive World Cup.

Hincapie played in all three of Ecuador’s games in Qatar and showed just why there have been admiring glances cast his way. The likes of Arsenal and Tottenham are thought to be keen on the 20-year-old. Chelsea, too, have also been credited previously with holding an interest in Hincapie.

And that interest from Chelsea is further pushed today by Sky Sports. Their report claims the Blues see Hincapie as a potential alternative to the in-demand Josko Gvardiol.

Hincapie’s current club, Bayer Leverkusen, are expected to demand around £34m for the defender.

The youngster has been impressive over in the Bundesliga and at such a young age, he is seen as one of the top young defenders currently playing in Europe.

Tipped to have a ‘fabulous future‘ in the game by media reports in Italy, Hincapie’s World Cup performances did little to put off those interested clubs. Indeed, the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal will have liked what they saw from the 20-year-old.

TBR’s View: Hincapie has a lot to offer in England

There was plenty to like about Piero Hincapie in those group games with Ecuador. In and among a team not exactly awash with superstars, he definitely stood out in certain moments.

Clearly, the fact he’s already playing to a high level but is only 20 is appealing. For clubs like Chelsea, Arsenal or Tottenham, getting a top defender through the door at such a young age could give them their main man at the back for a decade or so.

Hincapie, of course, would surely relish the chance of playing in the Premier League. All three of the interested parties here can tempt him, although Chelsea’s ambitious new owners might be able to offer the financial pull.
