Chelsea transfer: Report claims 30-goal star would jump at Blues move
Journalist Pete O’Rourke has told the Football Terrace that Romelu Lukaku would jump at the chance of a return to Chelsea.
The former Blues striker left Stamford Bridge permanently in 2014. Since his departure, he has grown into one of the most feared marksmen in Europe.
Lukaku is a menace in the penalty area and would see a move to Chelsea as unfinished business. He originally signed for the club in 2011 and was viewed as a future star even then.
Last season he helped Inter claim their first league title for many years. Lukaku fired 30 goals and claimed 10 assists, striking up quite a partnership with Lautaro Martinez.
Furthermore, O’Rourke has claimed that Chelsea would land Lukaku pretty easily if they bid a fee in the region of £100 million.
That fee may seem a lot, although Chelsea’s need for a striker is pretty urgent. Timo Werner hasn’t really proved himself, Tammy Abraham could leave, whilst Olivier Giroud has already gone.
Plenty will feel as though a striker is a missing piece between winning the Premier League title and considering a top-four finish as successful.
Inter are also bracing themselves for bids for Martinez and it’ll be interesting to see if Chelsea do try and land their former striker.
Lukaku would be an incredible signing for Chelsea
The beauty of signing the Belgian would be that he’d need no settling in period whatsoever.
He earns £200,000-a-week and that wouldn’t be completely out of the realms of reality for Chelsea to contend with.
Some might see him as a downgrade on Erling Haaland who has also been linked with a move to the capital.
At 28, Lukaku is in his prime and the fact he’d come in with a point to prove makes him an attractive signing.
Thomas Tuchel is keen to add a striker before the window closes and he could do a lot worse than Lukaku.
