Chelsea start process to beat Tottenham to sign ‘supreme’ £40m player

Chelsea have reportedly started the process to sign OGC Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo, with Tottenham also chasing the centre-back.

The former FC Barcelona wonderkid has been one of Europe’s best defenders this season, with Todibo a key reason behind Nice’s bid for the Ligue 1 title alongside PSG.

And as a result, transfer interest has now exploded for Todibo, with Tottenham strongly linked with a move for the £40m-rated defender, alongside Manchester United.

However, according to TeamTalk, Chelsea have now begun their attempt to sign Todibo, with the Blues expected to spend big again this month in a bid to climb out of midtable obscurity.

Hailed by GFFN as a defender with ‘supreme’ ability, Tottenham missing out on Todibo to a rival like Chelsea will be a killer blow for the north London side.

Yet given how disastrous the season has gone for Mauricio Pochettino, the Nice defender could be more interested in joining another Premier League side, despite the numbers Chelsea will put up for Todibo.

Todibo’s rise from Barcelona outcast to French superstar has been incredible to see, and Premier League interest in the defender has been more than warranted.

However, with Chelsea now in the race for the centre-back, Todibo would be wise to reject the west London side’s advances given who else is interested in his services this January.

Indeed, Todibo could have his pick of any club in Europe if he plays his cards right later this year, and the Nice star could secure a dream move if he holds out this month.

Whilst a Tottenham or United could be an enticing move, Todibo would be smart to wait until the end of the season before deciding to move on from Nice, with Chelsea a club the defender shouldn’t be considering.
