Ben Chilwell and Jack Grealish deliver verdict on Chelsea player Ross Barkley
Chelsea roared back to form with a 3-1 victory over Southampton at Stamford Bridge. Goals from Trevoh Chalobah, Timo Werner and Ben Chiwell ended a turbulent week on a high. After the game, Chilwell and Jack Grealish lauded Blues midfielder, Ross Barkley.
The English midfielder has earned a mini reprieve under Thomas Tuchel. After spending last season on loan with Aston Villa, his future with Chelsea seemed uncertain.
He was introduced for the final seven minutes against the Saints. He came on with the score 1-1 and within a minute, he’d helped Chelsea take the lead.
The Blues signed Barkley from Everton in 2018. He has made 89 appearances for the Stamford Bridge-based outfit but has struggled for consistency.
This season he looks like being a peripheral figure at Chelsea. On Saturday, he made his first Premier League appearance, whilst he also came on against Juventus in midweek.
Chelsea sit top of the Premier League at the moment, however. Liverpool could only draw with Manchester City yesterday, so the Blues stay on top for the international break.
The future looks bright for Tuchel’s men. They are the reigning champions of Europe and they’ll hope to add the Premier League title to their collection once again this season.
What have Chilwell and Grealish said about Chelsea player Barkley?
The City star has praised the ball which Barkley played that led to Chelsea scoring in the game. The £100 million player spent last season playing with Barkley during his loan spell at Villa Park.
Chilwell is a current teammate and he believes that the 27-year-old was ‘brilliant’ following his introduction from the bench.
Barkley, paid £100,000-a-week, seems like a popular figure in the dressing room. The challenge for the midfielder is to force his way into the Chelsea team amid a plethora of talent already at the club.
