Chelsea could be set to make an unexpected target their first signing of the summer as Argentine TV station TyC Sports claim that goalkeeper Willy Caballero will be signed on a free transfer after his release from Manchester City. The experienced shot-stopper, who was previously at Malaga, is likely to replace Asmir Begovic as a second choice goalkeeper.

Begovic is expected to leave this summer in search of regular first team football, with Bournemouth interested. Caballero represents quality and experience as an alternative to Thibaut Courtois should the Belgian suffer an injury or be suspended.

Another player who could soon be on the move is striker Diego Costa. Costa’s brother, Jair, told Yahoo Esportes, as translated by the Sun and Goal, that he has several offers after the Spaniard make it public that Antonio Conte was not including him in his plans for next season. He explained:

“Diego, fortunately, has many offers. I cannot say how many there are, but they exist. I think it’s very unlikely [he’ll go to China], because there is the World Cup next year and Diego wants to be there. [Palmeiras in Brazil?] To be honest, now, I find it very difficult. Many friends called me in the last hours to ask about it, but Diego did not comment on that. Diego has a great affection for Atletico, but there is nothing certain so far. We have to wait and see what will happen.”

The likes of AC Milan have also been linked but it remains to be seen if Chelsea will be able to sell the forward permanently or if they will be forced to settle for a loan deal. Such an agreement could see the Blues pay part of his wages for at least another season, with few clubs able to afford his existing earnings.

He could follow in the footsteps of Dominic Solanke in leaving west London, as the England under 20 sensation agreed a move to Liverpool earlier this summer. His contract expires this summer and negotiations are ongoing between the clubs over a fee, but the London Evening Standard now say that the Blues will demand £10 million.

Solanke, who spent time at Vitesse Arnhem, won the player of the tournament award as he won the Under 20 World Cup with England, following on from previous winners such as Paul Pogba, Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero. As such, that could play a part in the valuation, though Liverpool may instead choose to go to a tribunal to decide the fee.
