With fans still waiting for news of their first summer signing, Chelsea supporters will be boosted by claims by Gianluca Di Marzio that the club have made an offer worth €60 million for Southampton central defender Virgil Van Dijk.
The club have been linked with several defenders as Antonio Conte looks to replace the outgoing John Terry and add depth to his squad. Van Dijk will be one of the most attractive options on the market after his assured displays in the Premier League on the south coast but it remains to be seen if a deal can be done.

In less positive news, the Daily Mail report that talks over a new contract for goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois have been put on hold after the Belgian demanded a two-fold increase in his wages from £90,000 per week to £180,000 per week.
Whilst it is undeniable that the shot stopper has made huge progress in recent years, it would be a substantial pay increase. Real Madrid showed an interest in his services early in the summer but that has now dissipated. However, Courtois does have just two years left on his existing agreement making a renewal a priority for the club.

Another player has just one year left on his contract, but Chelsea are desperate to get rid of him this summer, according to The Sun. That man is striker Loic Remy, after an embarrassingly poor loan spell at Crystal Palace saw him make just one Premier League start last season as he struggled with injuries and poor form.
As such, there has been a shortage of suitors for the 30-year-old early on in the transfer window. Bosses are desperate to sell the ex-Newcastle forward though in an attempt to free up both squad space and wages.
