In huge news for Chelsea, the Independent report that Romelu Lukaku has decided on a move to Chelsea, rather than Manchester United, with a move already progressing and close to an agreement. The Belgian could now complete an imminent return to his former club after several years on Merseyside.

Lukaku’s affection for the Blues and admiration of club legend Didier Drogba are believed to be factors in persuading the striker to return to London, where he has a point to prove after failing to break into the first team before he was sold by then manager Jose Mourinho in 2014.

However, it’s not all good news for the Blues, as news emerged on Monday that Virgil Van Dijk wants a move to Liverpool, rather than Chelsea, although the London Evening Standard claim that the club will now return their attentions to Juventus central defender Leonardo Bonucci after his side fell to defeat in the Champions League final.

Having been interested in the Italian international last summer, Chelsea failed in their attempts to bring him to London and will now try again after another season, despite the fact that the 30-year-old has a contract in Turin for a further four years, which will not expire until 2021.

Any deal with Juventus could include midfielder Nemanja Matic, as Italian source Gazzetta dello Sport report that Massimiliano Allegri is keen to bring the Serbian to the Juventus Stadium and has identified him as one of the club’s top targets for this summer transfer window.

The 28-year-old is yet to agree a new deal at Stamford Bridge, with only one year left on his existing agreement, which could force the Blues to sell rather than risk allowing him to leave on a free transfer next summer. Juve would be able to enter into contract talks with him in only six months time thanks to the Bosman ruling.
