The Mirror claim that Chelsea are preparing to launch a last-gasp move for Villarreal defender Mateo Musacchio despite speculation that a deal for the Argentinean to move to AC Milan is all but agreed. With a £21 million fee likely and a release clause in his contract, the battle could come down to the wages on offer.

The 26-year-old has been one of the best performers in Spain in recent years in defence, with the Yellow Submarine having shone for their defensive strength this season. However, a move now seems likely after they crashed out of the Europa League through defeat to Roma.

The Blues are also believed to be leading the race for Uruguayan teen prodigy Joaquin Ardaiz, say the Sun, with the 18-year-old likely to demand £25 million to see him leave his current club, Danubio, where now Paris Saint-Germain forward Edinson Cavani also came through the ranks.

A key figure for Uruguay’s youth teams, he scored both goals in a 2-1 win over Ecuador in the South American under 20s championships final. Interest from both Manchester clubs, Barcelona and Sporting Lisbon could complicate matters, but the striker’s English agent is believed to favour a move to London.

After yesterday’s win over Swansea City, with Pedro and Diego Costa scoring second half goals, Antonio Conte told the press:

“I am satisfied with the performance of the team. We played very well and we created chances to score. It wasn’t easy to play against Swansea, above all because in the last period, since Paul Clement came in, he had a great impact on the team – and created a different danger to Liverpool and Man City. But today we dominated. I don’t remember one moment we suffered in the game. We played really well in the first half and it was a pity to concede at the end of the half. Maybe the time was finished, but in this case you must pay attention.”

The fixture temporarily gives the club an eleven point lead at the top of the league with Cesc Fabregas also singled out for praise after making his 300th Premier League appearance.
