Chelsea’s deal to sign Juventus’ Alex Sandro has taken another twist as the Italian club look to persuade the Brazilian to stay another season.
According to the Standard, Sandro has been offered a new contract worth £84,000-per-week in order to stay in Italy, while it has been made clear that the left-back will have to make a transfer request to leave.
Juventus have said they want the Brazilian to stay for another season and then they will consider letting him leave after the next campaign.
However, Sandro has the opportunity to earn more than £100,000-per-week at Chelsea while still competing in the Champions League and at the highest level, which makes the Blues very optimistic about sealing a club-record £61 million deal for the 26-year-old.
While the Blues are close to bringing Sandro in, they are very far away from shipping off their unwanted striker, Diego Costa. The Spaniard has been told by text message that he is surplus to requirements by Antonio Conte, yet that does not mean he will leave the club.
Costa wants to leave on his own terms and only has eyes for a return to Atletico Madrid, as reported by the Mirror. The Chelsea striker has made it clear he will only join the Spanish side after he turned down a move to the Chinese Super League, as he felt the lifestyle and culture didn’t suit him.
Because of Costa’s refusal to leave, which has potential to develop into an ‘all-out war’ between him and Conte as per the Mirror’s report, Chelsea’s deal to sign Romelu Lukaku from Everton is being held up.
The Telegraph have reported that Conte has told the Blues that they must re-sign the Belgian striker whatever the price, but if they are unable to sell Costa, they will be left with too many first-team strikers and an exiled player who is on £150,000-per-week, with two years remaining on his contract.
While Costa bides his time at the club, the Blues are busy investing in their long-term future, with Ajax youngster Daishawn Redan pictured holding a Chelsea shirt, as reported by the Metro.
The 16-year-old, who is rated as one of the stars of the future, was pictured holding the number nine jersey which has been vacant since Radamel Falcao left the club.
The teenager has been highly coveted ever since it was announced he would be leaving Ajax this summer, but Chelsea are believed to have beaten Manchester City, Manchester United and Red Bull Leipzig to the signing.
At such a young age, however, it’s highly unlikely fans will get to see Redan play any first-team football next season.
