Chelsea could be set to line up a surprise arrival this summer in the form of Juventus right-back Dani Alves, only a year after the Brazilian joined the Turin club, say Spanish newspaper Sport. They claim that Juve are open to the idea of selling the former Barcelona man, with Chelsea and both Manchester clubs interested.
Alves would be a seemingly natural fit into the right wing back role at Stamford Bridge and has previously spoken of being open to playing in the Premier League, but the club’s policy of only offering one year deals to players over 30 years of age could make negotiations difficult.
That may also have played a role in the departure of captain John Terry, as the Sun claim that Mark Hughes’ Stoke are the latest team to be in the mix to sign the experienced defender. With a number of clubs having been linked previously, including from the Premier League and China, Terry’s future is no clearer.
All that is certain is that the 36-year-old will continue his playing career away from west London after almost two decades at Chelsea and he will hope to end his career at the club by lifting the Premier League trophy at the end of the season as is currently looking likely after Tottenham dropped points against West Ham on Friday.
Terry is likely to return to the club one day in a non-playing capacity if he wants to, and the Daily Mail claim that he could be reunited with former goalkeeper Petr Cech, suggesting that Chelsea bosses have remained in contact with the Czech goalkeeper to ensure that he remains “part of the Chelsea family”.
Having left the club to join Arsenal, that has not put bosses off after Cech’s excellent service before leaving after competing with Thibaut Courtois for the number one shirt. A return off the field does seem likely, but not until his playing time at the Emirates has come to an end.
