The Sun believe that Chelsea club bosses are facing up to the possibility that they may have to fork out over £200 million in transfer fees this summer in order to replace their star duo Eden Hazard and Diego Costa as some have become resigned to the fact that both will leave the club.
The Belgian is subject to interest from Real Madrid ahead of a potential £100 million move, but the club are expecting a lower fee for Diego Costa, who wants to move to China according to these reports, but Antonio Conte will be left with no choice but to spend big in order to replace him.
Part of the money that they need to spend in the summer could go towards Monaco left-back Benjamin Mendy as Sky Sports report that Chelsea, alongside both Manchester clubs, are interested in bringing the 22-year-old to Stamford Bridge to add competition on the left flank next season.
The Frenchman has made 28 appearances for the Ligue 1 leaders this season since a £13 million move from fellow French side Marseille, but it seems highly likely that his current club would demand a far higher fee for him if they were to let him go this summer.
After rumours linking him with a move away in search of regular Premier League football, Tammy Abraham’s future remains unclear after Chelsea youth coach Eddie Newton told the Daily Star that there are no concrete plans for him yet, saying:
“Tammy is still on the development path. We all want to play Premier League – I still want to play in the Premier League, if I could! But there’s only a certain amount of people you can put in a squad and it’s up to Antonio to make that decision.
“I’m sure Michael [Emanalo] will help him with all the decision-making processes that he’s got to make in the summer. Once he’s made the decision, we’ll know where we stand and see where Tammy stands, then we’ll go from there.”
The England under 21 international has been on fire in the Championship, scoring 24 goals for Bristol City in their relegation fight, and could look to test himself at a higher level next season when he returns from his current loan spell.
