Chelsea round-up: High profile exit to be confirmed; Sevilla star targeted; Costa future latest

With new signings getting nearer and nearer, The Guardian say that Chelsea could soon make their first sale of the summer as Nemanja Matic nears a £40 million move to Manchester United. The move would see him re-united with former Blues boss Jose Mourinho.

The exit will make room for the potential arrival of Tiemoue Bakayoko from Monaco and is also likely to mean that Cesc Fabregas will remain at Stamford Bridge. At such a price for a 28-year-old who has just one year left on his contract, it is good value for an inconsistent performer.

That money could also go towards a move for Sevilla winger Vitolo, say the Mirror. The Spanish international has a £35 million release clause and is reportedly being monitored as a potential addition to ease the pressure on Eden Hazard on the left wing.

Atletico Madrid were also strongly linked with the 27-year-old earlier this summer but their transfer ban may give Chelsea the advantage in the pursuit. With six goals and ten assists from 43 games last season, he would represent exactly the kind of quality that Chelsea need in depth next season.

That transfer ban could also pose a problem for Chelsea as they try to sell unwanted centre forward Diego Costa. Spanish newspaper AS report that the club are Costa’s preferred destination, but the two sides are yet to come to an agreement over a potential fee.

Chelsea would be prepared to loan him out until Atletico can sign him permanently in January, but only because Costa has made it clear that he is only willing to leave if he can return to the Spanish capital. Antonio Conte desperately wants the forward sold this summer and the club are doing all they can to avoid having his disruptive influence around the squad once the transfer window slams shut.
