Willy Caballero has become Chelsea’s first signing of the summer, the club have confirmed. The ex-Manchester City shot stopper will replace Asmir Begovic as second choice behind Thibaut Courtois after the Serbian moved to join Bournemouth on a permanent deal.

The 35-year-old has had an illustrious career, mostly in Spain, and will bring bags of experience to the Chelsea bench in the 2017/18 season. Whilst he is unlikely to displace Courtois, he is a strong option to have on the bench for Antonio Conte and in the case of injury or suspension.

He could soon be followed by defender Antonio Rudiger as Sky Italia say that a €38 million (£33.4 million) deal has been agreed with Roma. It now seems that the Germany international could undergo a medical in west London after returning from Russia where he is involved in the Confederations Cup with his national team.

Rudiger is a versatile option given that he can play anywhere across a back four, though he is likely to form part of a back three as Chelsea used so successfully last season. The 24-year-old is a high quality addition and will hope to replicate his good form from Bundesliga and Serie A in the Premier League.

The club also confirmed another signing on Saturday, as reported by BBC Sport, with Exeter City’s teen sensation Ethan Ampadu. The 16-year-old made 13 appearances in League 2 last season in the heart of the Grecians’ defence at St. James’ Park.

Exeter are now in talks with the Blues over a fee for the youngster after he moved at the end of his contract. Chelsea can now boast one of the brightest young talents in the country, having earned caps for Wales at under 16 and under 19 level and is only expected to improve under the high class coaching at Stamford Bridge.
