Chelsea round-up: Conte admits Eden Hazard could be sold; Ryan Bertrand could return; Milan want Cesc Fabregas

Antonio Conte has confirmed that Chelsea could be forced to sell star man Eden Hazard if he does want a move away in the summer if a bid comes in, with the likes of Real Madrid linked with a move for the Belgian. The Chelsea boss is quoted by the Independent as saying in his press conference:

“I don’t think that this idea (to sell Hazard) is in the mind of the club. I think we have to improve the team, to reinforce the team. But you know that, in football, there is also the will of the player. But I think, also Eden is very happy to stay in Chelsea, to stay with us and work with us. Yes. I can tell this. But the future… I haven’t a crystal ball, no.”

With rumours of talks over a contract renewal in the summer, it seems that a Premier League title and potential FA Cup victory could help the Blues to persuade the forward to remain in west London after he has regained his best form after a very forgettable season individually and for the club in 2015/16.

The club have already qualified for Champions League football next season and will be looking to add depth to their squad to cope with the additional pressure on the team with added fixtures, and the Daily Mail claim that Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand could be part of those plans.

The defender, who usually figures at left-back but can also play centrally in a back three, was brought through the youth ranks at Stamford Bridge before being sold for £10 million in 2015. Now, he could be set to return to London but the Saints will be asking for at least £20 million for the 27-year-old.

The Blues may have to adapt to life without Spanish midfielder Cesc Fabregas, though, as Italian source Corriere dello Sport report that he is one of AC Milan’s top priorities in the upcoming summer transfer window. The experienced playmaker has been in and out of the side this season after failing to convince Antonio Conte that he deserves a regular place.

Nevertheless, the 29-year-old has still recorded an impressive 11 assists and six goals in 32 appearances in all competitions as he has fought with Nemanja Matic for a place alongside N’Golo Kante in midfield, and there is no doubt that he will need replacing if he is to leave in the summer.
