The Sun report that both Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas could see their Chelsea futures under threat this summer, as Antonio Conte looks to strengthen his squad in order to defend their Premier League crown next season, whilst also managing the added pressure of Champions League football.
The potential arrivals of Romelu Lukaku and Marco Verratti could force the Blues to sell players to make room in their squad and to fund the moves for the duo, who would not come cheap. It may not come as a huge surprise given the ongoing speculation surrounding Costa, whilst Fabregas was upset to miss out on starting in the FA Cup final at Wembley.
Another potential addition could be Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand, according to the Mirror. It is reported that Liverpool and Manchester City are also tracking the left-back, who made his professional breakthrough at Chelsea in 2006, making 57 appearances for the club alongside nine different loan spells during his decade at the club.
The 27-year-old then joined the Saints after spending a season on loan there, despite winning the Champions League as part of Roberto di Matteo’s squad, and has since proven himself to be one of the Premier League’s most reliable defenders with his displays on the left of defence or as part of a back three.
Finally, one player who could be on his way out is striker Michy Batshuayi, who failed to impress in his debut season after a £33 million move to Stamford Bridge last summer. The Belgian international told the Telegraph that he does not know where his future lies, but more game time is a must. He said:
“Everyone knows that I have to play more, that I have to score goals. There’s a World Cup coming up next year. I want to be ready for the World Cup. I’m not going to ask anything. I’m going to listen to what they are saying.
“They are the boss, not me. And afterwards I’ll discuss it with my agent and the club. Amicably, as friends of course. A loan? That’s not up to me. That’s up to them (Chelsea). They take the decisions, not me.”
