Following a season in which Willian has become a bit part player, after being named player of the year only a year ago, German newspaper Abdenzeintung report that Bayern Munich are lining him up as an alternative if they are unsuccessful in their attempt to sign Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal.
The right winger has continued to shine when given opportunities this season but has found those chances limited, as he has been forced to share the role with Spanish winger Pedro – a competitor who has often been favoured by Antonio Conte when it comes to big games.
The duo could be joined by another player competing for a starting spot in Bertrand Traore, should the forward return to Stamford Bridge after excelling on loan at Ajax this season.
However, the Sun claim that Lyon are interested in signing him to replace the outgoing Alexandre Lacazette, with the French club quoted a price of £17.5 million for his services.
Lacazette is set to join Atlético Madrid this summer and Lyon should have the money available to purchase Traore at that price, with it unlikely that he will be able to earn a regular place in the Chelsea first team next season, even after his superb displays in Holland.
Meanwhile, outgoing captain and club legend John Terry has urged the club to act quickly in the transfer market so as not to fall behind their competitors and maintain their rise to power, with more improvements next year. He told the Guardian:
“I think we can push on but, listen, clearly we have to keep improving year after year. You can’t stand still in the transfer market. And that’s not a [message] applying just to us, that’s just everyone: everyone needs to keep raising the bar.
“This current squad is good enough to go and compete and I think we’ve shown that this year. But naturally there are going to be more games next year so the squad needs improving, and a bit more strength in depth.”
Whilst Terry will not have a role to play next season, he is likely to return in an off the field capacity in the future and will hope to be involved in a side as good as some of those which he led as a player in his time at Stamford Bridge.
