Chelsea round-up: Alvaro Morata confirms interest; Juventus’ Leonardo Bonucci hints at move; Monaco’s Thomas Lemar going nowhere

Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata has confirmed that he spoke with Chelsea over a potential summer move in an interview with the Guardian, in which he revealed:

“Various Premier League coaches called to tell me to play for them. I said yeah, I’d like to, that if I had to leave I would almost certainly go to London, but that I didn’t know what Madrid would do. I knew they’d bring me back but I didn’t know if it was to keep me or sell me.

“I spoke directly to Mauricio Pochettino and Antonio Conte, although the norm is clubs call my dad or agent. Madrid said they didn’t want to sell, so here I am… I remember talking to my dad then and him saying: ‘This guy’s [Conte] going to win the league there.’”

Morata instead went to Real Madrid as they exercised a buy-back clause in their agreement with Juventus, but has found his opportunities limited in his return campaign in Spain and could be open to a summer move if it offers him the opportunity of regular first team football at a side like Chelsea, if the Blues go back in for him in the upcoming transfer window.

He could be joined by Leonardo Bonucci too after the Juventus and Italy central defender hinted at a potential move, as the Sun quote him as suggesting that he’s a fan of the Premier League. He said:

“It [the Premier League] fascinates me. When I can, I watch English games, and not only for the quality of the players on display. I’m hot headed and I love the passion that exudes from their packed stands. It’s for that kind of thing that I’m the first on the training pitch and the last to return to the changing room.”

Manchester City are also thought to be interested in Antonio Conte’s former player both for club and country, but the manager will hope to have an influence and persuade him to head to Stamford Bridge if he does decide to move to England.

The Sun claim that another target could be Monaco left-back Thomas Lemar but his dad, Edwige, told French outlet Ouest France, translated by the reports in the Sun and talkSPORT:

“Today, Thomas is with the Ligue 1 leaders. There is no set plan for him. We are of the belief that logically the plan is playing time, which is what he has at Monaco. Sometimes there are financial parameters that do not fit into that, but I think the aim is to do another year or two with Monaco.

“His ambition, his aim, is certainly to go a little further. In this situation, the player will have a say, but he is not always the only one to decide.”

Also capable of playing further forward in midfield, it seems that Lemar would be the perfect addition for the Blues, but he is clearly in no rush to leave his club on the south coast of France.
