Chelsea round-up: £170million Neymar bid possible; AC Milan’s Gianluigi Donnarumma wanted; Antonio Conte reacts to Crystal Palace defeat

The Sunday Times sensationally claim that Brazil and Barcelona star Neymar could consider a move to Chelsea or Manchester United in a move which would cost the club £170 million. The forward is said to be considering his options as a move to the Premier League could see him become the world’s best-paid player.

That would move him ahead of the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in terms of pay and would also see him emerge from Messi’s shadow at Barcelona to lead a side of his own, which he would undoubtedly do if he were to join either of the top English clubs linked to him.

The Mirror say that the same two clubs, alongside Manchester City, are also preparing to do battle for another target in the summer, with AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma considered as a potential replacement for Thibaut Courtois should Real Madrid make a move for the Belgian.

The youngster is one of the most highly rated young players in the world, with huge experience both for club and country already despite his young age, and he would represent a long-term solution if Courtois is to leave the club in the summer to return to the city where he spent two years on loan.

Right now, though, Antonio Conte will have other issues on his mind following a shock home defeat to Crystal Palace at the weekend as Wilfried Zaha and Christian Benteke scored to give the visitors a win. He told the media, as quoted by the club website:

“I think today we deserved at least a draw. I don’t want to say a win, but at least a draw. We created many chances to score, we dominated the game against a very strong team with really good players. It’s a pity but it wasn’t our day… We have to play on Wednesday against Man City and we all know the strength of their team, but for now the most important thing is to rest and recover well. We must prepare in the right way. Every game will be very tough from now until the end, whether the opponent is Man City or a team fighting near the relegation zone.”

Conte clearly now wishes to set all eyes on Wednesday’s must-win fixture against Pep Guardiola’s side as they look to see out their great work this season to win the Premier League title as we enter the final two months of the campaign.
