Chelsea round-up: Spurs reject Rose hopes; Barkley remains a target; midfielder move collapses

Chelsea could be set for a blow to their transfer hopes as the London Evening Standard report that Tottenham will not even consider entering into negotiations for left-back Danny Rose amid interest from their London rivals. It comes after Rose heavily criticised the club’s wage structure.

Rose had been linked with the Blues but Daniel Levy clearly has no intention to sell a key player to one of their key title rivals. Levy has shown in the past that he will not be pressured into a sale and it now seems highly unlikely that Rose will be allowed to depart this summer.

Levy could also face a challenge from Chelsea in Tottenham’s pursuit of Everton’s Ross Barkley. The Telegraph believe that both clubs remain interested despite news that Barkley has torn a hamstring and will undergo surgery which will keep him sidelined for at least three months.

Both interest parties have shown stronger signs of interest in the past week or so but remain reluctant to pay the £25 million asking price with only 12 months left on Barkley’s contract. Whether this injury news would now delay a move until January remains to be seen.

In other news, French newspaper L’Equipe believe that Chelsea were strongly interested in signing holding midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak earlier this summer. However, the delays caused by Paris Saint-Germain stalling as they completed a move for Neymar led to the talks being abandoned by Antonio Conte’s side.

The French club remain determined to sell the Poland international this summer as they seek to clear out a number of unwanted players from their squad. Given the recent arrival of Tiemoue Bakayoko to Stamford Bridge, it may be a surprise to see Chelsea revive their interest in the PSG man, but if they fail in their approach for Danny Drinkwater, he could become an option once again.
