Chelsea made an approach to Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak two weeks ago, according to French newspaper L’Equipe. Reports suggest that, before sealing a deal for Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko for £40 million, the Blues contacted the Polish international’s agent.

There has been no indication that they are still interested in the 27-year-old since signing Bakayoko, but he is an interesting target. Having joined the Ligue Un side last summer, he made just 11 league appearances in his debut season and was not even included in the squad for the final two months of the season.

Another midfielder has been linked with the club too, as ESPN say that Chelsea are interested in Barcelona star Sergi Roberto. The 25-year-old has a release clause worth £37.5 million and the Blues could make a move for him in the coming weeks as they consider a bid for the midfielder.

Roberto is a versatile option and can play in central midfield or at right back. He could also be an option at wing-back for Antonio Conte. Having missed out on Danilo and Alex Sandro, Roberto could be another option for the Italian as he looks for competition to fight for a place with Victor Moses and Marcos Alonso.

In other news, forward Izzy Brown has signed a new contract and left the club on loan to join Brighton for the coming season, the club have confirmed. His new contract will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2021. The 20-year-old spent last season on loan at Huddersfield, where he scored four goals in 15 games.

He will now spend the season on the south coast under the management of Chris Hughton and could even make his first appearance for the club in their pre-season friendly against League One side Southend United on Tuesday night. There, he will hope to establish himself as a Premier League player.
