Chelsea round-up: Striker completes move; Sevilla want defender; Costa decision taken in January

Alvaro Morata has finally become a Chelsea player as the official club website announced that the Spaniard has undergone a medical at the club, before putting pen to paper. He is now set to join his new team-mates in Singapore in order to complete the rest of pre-season with the rest of the squad.

This signals the completion of a £58 million move for the striker, who arrived at London Heathrow on Thursday to complete the transfer. It is a crucial deal for Chelsea and will make a real statement of intent as they look to defend their Premier League title.

However, he may not join up with Andreas Christensen. The Danish defender has just returned to the fold after a two year loan spell at Borussia Monchengladbach but Spanish newspaper El Desmarque say that Sevilla are considering a move for the 21-year-old.

Christensen would reportedly cost €15 million (£13.5 million) and is just one of a list of candidates being considered by the La Liga side. It may come as a surprise to see the centre-back leave given the positive reports from Germany on his form, but Antonio Conte is likely to make a decision on his future having watched him closely during pre-season.

One player who is definitely set to leave is Diego Costa. Antonio Conte has spoken out about the issue for the first time as the Telegraph quote him as revealing to the press:

“I don’t like to talk about players who are not here but the only thing I can tell you [is that] in January, the Costa situation was very clear, for the club for him and his agent. For me the situation is closed.”

The Italian was speaking before the pre-season friendly against Arsenal this weekend. There had been some fans who questioned whether or not he could make a comeback after missing out on Romelu Lukaku, but any doubt has clearly now been quashed.
