Chelsea round-up: Champions League draw; Arsenal man could force move; Barcelona's Willian interest
Chelsea have been placed in Group C of the Champions League alongside some tough opponents as they will face Atletico Madrid, AS Roma and minnows Qarabag from Azerbaijan. It will see the Blues face a side they have only beaten once in the Spanish opposition, managed by Diego Simeone.
However, their record against the side from the Italian capital is much better with two wins and a draw from four encounters, whilst the Blues have never before faced Qarabag. They overcame three qualifiers in order to reach the group stage for the first time in their history this season.
The Blues are still in the market as they look to bolster their squad to be competitive in Europe. That could include the signing of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who would helpfully match the homegrown criteria for European competition, and The Telegraph say that the club are hoping he will submit a transfer request to Arsenal to force a move this summer.
Antonio Conte is reported to be keen to bring the England international to Stamford Bridge as an option at wing-back, competing with the likes of Victor Moses and Marcos Alonso. However, the Gunners are so far reluctant to part ways with him despite the fact that he is in the final year of his contract.
Chelsea could also lose a key player before the summer transfer window comes to a close next Thursday as The Times believe that Barcelona have registered an interest in Willian as a potential replacement for his compatriot Neymar. The Brazilian was not first choice last season but is unlikely to be for sale.
So far this season, the attacking midfielder has started every game in the absence of Pedro and Eden Hazard and his form has been one of few bright sparks until victory against Tottenham last weekend. Barcelona will have money to spend though, so it could be a potential deal to keep an eye on in the next week.
