Chelsea predicted team to play Southampton: Saul and 28-year-old to start
Chelsea take on Southampton tonight as Thomas Tuchel switches his focus to the Carabao Cup.
The Blues thrashed Norwich 7-0 at the weekend and that win came without a recognised striker within their ranks.
Chelsea boast some real quality within their squad and as a result, Tuchel could make some changes this evening.
Ahead of tonight’s game, we looked at the team that could start against the Saints this evening.
In goal and back three
Kepa Arrizabalaga looks certain to replace Edouard Mendy between the posts.
There could also be some changes at the back too. Andreas Christensen should come back into the side after sitting on the bench at the weekend.
Trevoh Chalobah will hope to keep his place and Malang Sarr could also get another chance to impress.
The 22-year-old married in the summer of 2020 for £10 million from Nice and spent last season out on loan.
He played in the last round of the Carabao Cup and should get the nod tonight.
Midfield and wing-backs
Saul Niguez hasn’t really settled at Stamford Bridge and he could earn a chance to start this evening.
Alongside him, Tuchel could plump for Ruben Loftus-Cheek. He’s another player who has been given a reprieve under Tuchel and he’s done well when called upon.
Ben Chilwell is likely to get a rest, with Marcos Alonso coming in to play at left wing-back.
On the right, we expect Cesar Azpilicueta to play and likely captain the side.
Kai Havertz looks like spearheading the attack once more. He didn’t manage to get on the scoresheet at the weekend and he’ll want to flex his credentials in the attack.
Behind him, Callum Hudson-Odoi might keep his place, although Hakim Ziyech could replace Mason Mount who could be dropped to the bench.
The Moroccan is vying for consistency and the £62,000-a-week player will want to grasp his latest chance.
