Chelsea ensured that they will be able to win the Premier League title against West Brom on Friday night with three points after they avoided a potential banana skin with a convincing victory over Middlesbrough, who were relegated by Monday night’s result.

Diego Costa opened the scoring after an exquisite pass from Cesc Fabregas played the Spaniard in to slot between the legs of the onrushing Brad Guzan, and Marcos Alonso made a similar run to pounce when Cesar Azpilicueta lifted the ball over the Boro backline only minutes after.

Nemanja Matic added a third in the second half as he found space in the box at a set piece, set up by Cesc Fabregas again, to fire past Guzan into the bottom corner and seal the victory with the Blues easing to the victory for the rest of the game.
