Chelsea are now making excellent progress in talks to sign a player who has been linked with Newcastle.
The Blues have been busy so far this summer, bringing the likes of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Omari Kellyman, Renato Veiga, Caleb Wiley, Marc Guiu and Tosin Adarabioyo to Stamford Bridge for Enzo Maresca.
Now, Chelsea have agreed terms to sign a player Newcastle wanted…
Chelsea agree Filip Jorgensen deal after Newcastle links
Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that Chelsea have agreed personal terms to sign Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal.
The reliable Italian journalist adds that Chelsea “want to be fast” in fear of missing out on the Dane to competitors, although the deal seems close after the goalkeeper followed the Blues on Instagram.
It comes after Spanish journalist Nacho Sanchis claimed that Newcastle had shortlisted Jorgensen as an option to compete against Nick Pope next season – although that vacancy seems to have since been filled with the signing of Odysseas Vlachodimos from Nottingham Forest.
The Athletic add that talks are continuing between Chelsea and Villarreal over a fee for the man from Lomma, who has a €45m (£37.8m) release clause written into his contract.
However, the 22-year-old is expected to cost a sum of around €20m – €25m (£16.8m – £21m) with Villarreal in need of a major sale this summer.
Odd situation
There just seems to be no coherency about Chelsea’s recruitment nowadays.
Only last summer, the Blues spent £25m to sign Robert Sanchez and a further £14m to land Djordje Petrovic from New England Revolution.
Kepa Arrizabalaga has also returned from his loan spell at Real Madrid since those two glovesmen were signed, so the goalkeeping department is becoming truly bloated at Stamford Bridge.

In fact, there are six goalkeepers listed in Chelsea’s squad on the club’s official website, with Marcus Bettinelli, Lucas Bergstrom and Eddie Beach also at Maresca’s disposal.

Hopefully, Chelsea can offload a goalkeeper or two before signing Jorgensen, or that area of the squad will be far too populated.
