Chelsea no longer favourites to sign Declan Rice, after rumours Arsenal could move for him

Arsenal’s incredible season has now made them one of the most attractive prospects in the Premier League for players.

Not only is Mikel Arteta building a side full of talented young players, but they’re playing some fantastic football too.

A report from The Telegraph may have provided an exciting update on a player the Gunners are keeping tabs on.

Chelsea’s fortunes are very different to Arsenal’s this season under their new ownership.

Sitting comfortably in mid-table, Graham Potter’s side are on a very poor run of form and are already out of both cups.

Qualifying for Europe next season looks like their most achievement aim, with the Champions League out of sight right now.

Their new owners have already spent a lot of cash and are showing no signs of slowing down.

However, The Telegraph now believe that Chelsea are no longer favourites to sign Declan Rice in the summer.

This could be great news for Arsenal who have been linked with a move for West Ham’s captain in recent days.

Mikel Arteta is a fan of the England international, and Ben Jacobs told the Football Terrace that Arsenal can’t be discounted from the race to sign Rice.

Chelsea no longer favourites to sign Rice, Arsenal could move

Rice is a former Chelsea academy player and has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge for some time.

He made it clear during the World Cup that playing in the Champions League is his next career ambition.

Arsenal look set to qualify for Europe’s premier competition this season, and could offer Rice that chance.

Arsenal are in the market for a central midfielder, and have been widely linked with a move for Youri Tielemans.

The Belgian’s contract runs out in the summer, although Arsenal have been reluctant to make a formal bid.

With Chelsea no longer favourites to sign Rice, the Gunners might be tempted to make a move for him instead.

He would certainly be an upgrade on Tielemans in their squad, but is likely to be a lot more expensive.

If they can sell the project Mikel Arteta is creating at The Emirates to him, then there’s no reason why he might not head to north London.
