Chelsea failed to bounce back from their 6-0 thrashing to Manchester City last night, as Manchester United dumped them out of the FA Cup.
The holders were beaten 2-0 by the Red Devils at Stamford Bridge with the goals coming from Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba.
The defeat sees the pressure increase on boss Maurizio Sarri.
The ex-Napoli boss is in his first season as the club’s manager but current form suggests something isn’t quite right.
Chelsea fans were singing songs last night that weren’t overly complimentary on his style of football, whilst fans spent large parts of the game singing Frank Lampard’s name.
Lampard netted 147 goals in 429 games for the Blues and is currently managing Championship outfit Derby County.
His first foray into management is going well, with the Rams nicely poised to challenge for a top six finish.
Based on last night, the Chelsea fans are under no illusions as to who they want to replace Sarri.
Chelsea’s current form will have those of a Derby persuasion anxious, to say the least.
If the Blues do opt to make a change, the club legend would be a viable choice to take over.
He knows the club and he has proven at Pride Park that he wants to play a possession-based, attractive style of football.
Lampard would surely find it hard to ignore any potential advances from Chelsea and that doesn’t bode well for Derby.
The Rams are already cast adrift in their attempt to reach that top six and losing their manager would seriously hamper their chances of promotion.
Chelsea’s form represents a real cause for concern for Derby and they will pray that Sarri is given the season to revive results.
