Chelsea finally reveal what’s next for Marc Guiu after Sunderland recall

TBR Football understands that Chelsea have a specific plan for Marc Guiu after recalling him from Sunderland, but it will depend on the circumstances.

Guiu was set to spend the season on loan at Sunderland, but after just a few weeks at the newly promoted side, he was recalled to Stamford Bridge.

Guiu was brought back following Liam Delap’s injury to provide further cover and give Enzo Maresca more options at the top of the pitch.

However, since then, Guiu hasn’t played a minute of football, with Tyrique George being preferred to him when Maresca has needed someone from the bench.

Exclusive: Chelsea rate Marc Guiu highly and see him as someone who can help this season

Graeme Bailey, Chief Correspondent for TBR Football, has revealed that Guiu is highly rated at Stamford Bridge, but the opportunities available to him might be limited.

Bailey states: “Guiu is obviously third choice, and they do like him, they rate him. How much football he’s going to see is debatable, though. It depends on the circumstances.

They were happy before Delap’s injury, and obviously that’s just really bad luck, but that’s football. In terms of the striker position, they are happy.

“They love Pedro and what he’s done. It’s just one of those things: when one of your big players gets injured, like Delap, you need someone to step in. They think Guiu is there to help.

“They’ve also got options up there, like Estavao, who can play in false positions. It’s not ideal, and they accept that. But they’ll reassess in January. By then, Delap should be back and fit again.”

Marc Guiu has had limited opportunities since joining Chelsea

The teenager has only had limited opportunities since he joined Chelsea, spending most of last season either on the bench or out of the squad altogether.

He played 16 times for Chelsea last season in all competitions, many of those opportunities coming from the bench.

However, Guiu played a significant role in Chelsea’s Europa Conference League success, scoring six goals in seven appearances in the competition.

Guiu also proved he could be a goal threat during his brief stint at Sunderland, scoring in his only full game for the Black Cats.
