Chelsea fans hammer Scotland boss for Billy Gilmour call
Scotland kicked off their Euro 2020 campaign with a defeat at the hands of the Czech Republic. Afterwards, Chelsea fans were upset Billy Gilmour wasn’t used.
The 20-year-old remained on the bench as Steve Clarke saw his team go down 2-0. A brace from Patrik Schick was enough to see the Czech Republic home.
Gilmour was called up for the 26-man squad following injuries to Ryan Jack and Kenny McLean.
The Chelsea youngster boasts some serious potential and looks set for a bright future in the game.
It hasn’t been a great season for the Blues youngster. He has found game time tough to come by but was on the bench as Chelsea lifted the Champions League.
Despite a lack of games at club level, Gilmour was expected to get a start in the middle of the park for Scotland.
Clarke instead opted for tried and tested and it backfired against the Czech Republic, who won the day at Hampden Park.
Gilmour, who earns £44,000-a-week at Stamford Bridge, will now hope to impress his boss ahead of Friday’s massive game against England.
The youngster has 22 appearances to his name at Chelsea. At this stage it’s not sure what the future holds, with Thomas Tuchel possibly considering a loan move for him.
Before next season gets underway though, he’ll hope to get some minutes for Scotland at Euro 2020.
