‘Take the money’: Some fans of PL club react as West Ham reportedly want their player, for £20m

Sky Sports News (29/07: 15:00) claim that West Ham are speaking with Chelsea over the signing of Kurt Zouma. The Hammers are set to bid £20 million, which is thought to be below the Blues’ valuation.

The defender is likely to be down the pecking order under Thomas Tuchel next season. He has also been linked with Sevilla as part of a deal that would see Jules Kounde sign for the Premier League club.

Zouma is happy in London though. At 26, Zouma will fancy first-team football next season and geographically he could welcome a move to the London Stadium.

Zouma was on the bench as Chelsea beat Manchester City in the Champions League Final in May. He did, however, manage 36 appearances in all competitions during 2020/21.

With the Blues chasing Kounde, his options could be restricted. West Ham are keen to add a centre-back and Zouma could be ideal.

The international performer earns £46,000-a-week at Chelsea and a wage in that bracket shouldn’t be a problem for the Hammers.

Chelsea fans concerned regarding Zouma news

The Blues fans seem somewhat worried about this news. Not least because they think if Zouma goes elsewhere, it could scupper the Kounde deal.

Of course, things could be less complicated than that and the money recouped from the Zouma sale could go towards a bigger bid for Kounde.

Plenty of other supporters don’t seem to believe the source and question whether West Ham are even keen.
