Chelsea fans react as Newcastle reportedly want to sign Timo Werner
Newcastle are reportedly interested in raiding Chelsea for Germany striker Timo Werner after last week’s takeover – and Chelsea fans have reacted.
Werner, 25, is struggling to replicate his best form at Chelsea since swapping Leipzig for Stamford Bridge. He has scored just 14 in 60 games.
However, the German star’s work rate and assists make him an asset under Thomas Tuchel. He has created 16 goals in the blue of Chelsea.
A report from BILD reporter Christian Falk claims Newcastle want to sign Chelsea ace Werner. His agent is the same as Toon defender Fabian Schar.
It is unclear whether Chelsea would be willing to sell a player they spent £47million to sign in 2020 – and whether Werner himself would be keen.
What are Chelsea fans saying as Newcastle eye Werner?
The overriding impression is that Chelsea fans are desperate for £272,000-a-week (Spotrac) star Werner to be a success in West London.
But his lack of goals, less than one in four, is an issue for Chelsea. Do they continue to place their faith in Werner, or go for someone more prolific?
Certainly, if Newcastle tabled a crazy offer that saw Chelsea make a profit, say in the region of £70million to £80million, it could be accepted.
For Werner, he has started three of seven Premier League games. At Newcastle, he would be first choice – the face of a new era is tempting.
Chelsea fans have discussed a possible move for Werner in the January window, or next summer, and many have named their price.
