Newcastle United could reportedly target Chelsea playmaker Ross Barkley this summer if Rafa Benitez returns to the club as manager – and Chelsea fans are seemingly willing to see the England international depart.
A takeover is reportedly edging closer with a deposit paid and only two things remaining to be completed, as per Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie. He claims that only a transferral of funds and final checks need to be finished.
Plenty of talk has been had over potential signings ahead of the summer window, while Steve Bruce’s future as manager of the Toon is also in doubt. Mauricio Pochettino and Rafa Benitez have been strongly linked with a move to Tyneside.

The Telegraph have claimed that Benitez is keen on a return to Newcastle this summer after a season with Chinese Super League side Dalian Yifang. The Spaniard only left last summer after his contract ended at Newcastle.
The report states that if Benitez does return to Newcastle, he will look to raid Manchester City for England defender John Stones – who had been previously linked with Newcastle – but also Chelsea star Barkley.
Barkley, 26, has been in and out of the Chelsea side this season – clocking up 20 appearances under Frank Lampard but finishing 90 minutes only seven times. Newcastle could sign him, and Chelsea fans are willing to let him go.
