David Luiz struggled once again for Arsenal as the Gunners suffered a 2-1 home defeat to Brighton on Thursday night in Freddie Ljungberg’s second game as interim manager – and Chelsea fans have reacted hilariously to the Brazilian’s display.
Goals from Adam Webster and Neal Maupay cancelled out Alexandre Lacazette’s equaliser, which has now seen Arsenal go nine Premier League matches without a win – last picking up three league points on October 6 against Bournemouth.
Veteran defender Luiz, 32, has clocked up 16 appearances for Arsenal this season following his £8million move from Chelsea to Arsenal in the summer. The former Paris Saint-Germain defender has struggled, being heavily criticised by Gunners fans.
Luiz partnered Sokratis on Thursday night and Brighton took advantage. Arsenal failed to defend a corner, allowing defender Webster to slam home an effort from 10 yards. But it was Maupay’s winner that saw Luiz and Sokratis fail.
Greek defender Sokratis was completely out of position and nowhere to be seen when Aaron Mooy curled a cross into the box. Maupay’s movement saw Luiz completely befuddled, and the Frenchman timed a header to perfection to beat Bernd Leno.
Chelsea fans reacted on Twitter after watching their former defender struggle at the hands of Maupay and Brighton, and many have hilariously teased the defender and Arsenal for his display.
Selling David Luiz for 8m has to be one of the best bits of business we’ve done in recent times. Mans cost them so many games this season and people actually thought he was going to improve them when he’s actually made them worse 😭
