Chelsea claimed victory in the European Super Cup last night and Trevoh Chalobah was the name on supporters’ lips. The Blues won on penalties following a 1-1 draw at Windsor Park.

Thomas Tuchel’s trophy-winning spree continued in Northern Ireland. Hakim Ziyech gave the Blues the lade in the first half. Gerard Moreno fired back for the Europa League winners though.

After parity couldn’t be separated in 120 minutes it was down to a penalty shootout. Tuchel made the bold choice to replace Edouard Mendy with Kepa Arrizabalaga ahead of the spot-kicks, which paid dividends.

The Spanish custodian saved penalties from Aissa Mandi and Raul Albiol to ensure Chelsea lifted another European trophy.

It was the performance of Chalobah which really caught the eye though. The 22-year-old has grown during pre-season and Tuchel rewarded him with a start in the Super Cup.

Chalobah has risen through the Chelsea ranks. Last night was actually his first-team debut though and he does still look set to go out on loan.

It’s unsure where he will end up playing during the 2021/22 campaign, although he certainly threw himself into the shop window last night.

Chelsea fans buzzing with Chalobah

The Blues have seen plenty of youth players step up to make the grade at first-team level in recent years.

Chalobah is the latest to catch the eye, although his stay in the Chelsea team could well prove to be short-lived.

He does look set to continue his development out on loan, although he has earned some praise following his performance last night.
