Chelsea duo Jamal Blackman and Lewis Baker have both sent heartfelt messages to Leeds United star Barry Douglas after the left-back was ruled out for the rest of the season.
Douglas, 29, has torn a medial ligament in his knee following the win over Millwall on Saturday. The one-time Scotland international soldiered on until the final whistle.
But scans have since shown that the former Wolverhampton Wanderers man has suffered a tear to the ligament, which will take at least two months to fix – meaning he will not play again this season.
Douglas posted on Instagram after the injury and Leeds fans reacted in their drones. But former Leeds loaness Blackman and Baker also replied, as did Pontus Jansson and Tyler Roberts in the form of emojis.
Blackman is undergoing rehab at Chelsea after breaking his leg while on loan at Leeds. Baker cancelled his Leeds loan spell in January, and has since been impressing in Reading’s fight against the drop.
Douglas is certainly a top player and although he has failed to replicate his form for Wolves last season, he has still remained a pivotal member of Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
He showed that on Saturday with an inch-perfect cross for Luke Ayling to power an equalising header home. Without that wand of a left foot, Leeds would have failed to gain three points and return to second place.
However, his loss could have been a whole lot worse. Gjanni Alioski has impressed since moving to left-back, Leif Davis is an excellent option from the Under-23’s and Gaetano Berardi is back fit.
