Everton’s hopes of landing Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori have gone up in smoke on transfer deadline day, according to the Evening Standard’s live blog, 8 August at 9:30am.
They report that a deal to take the Englishman to Goodison Park on loan was at an advanced stage but David Luiz’s move to Arsenal has killed it off.
Sky Sports report that Luiz is set to make the switch across London for £8 million and now Tomori has the opportunity to fill the boots of a defender 11 years his senior.
Everton are still looking for a central defender having failed to tempt Kurt Zouma back to the club and have now been foiled once again in their attempt to a Chelsea defender to the club.

Everton have done some good business in this transfer window, addressing weaknesses at right back and in attack as well as replacing Idrissa Gueye.
But they still need a new central defender because Michael Keane and Yerry Mina look frightfully short on cover, and the latter has a very poor injury record.
Tomori had a great season on loan at Derby last term – under his current Chelsea boss Frank Lampard – and could well have filled the shoes of Zouma.
