There has been a falling out between Thibaut Courtois and Antonio Conte according to Spanish source Sport. They claim that Conte’s decision to replace goalkeeping coach Christophe Lollichon with Conte’s choice and former Italy coach Gianluca Spinelli. Courtois and Lollichon were close but now no longer work together.
The Belgian’s falling out could not come at a worse time as they also claim that he has recently been offered a new contract to fend off interest from Real Madrid, with his current deal set to expire in 2019.
The Blues have also missed out on one of their other targets, as German source Kicker report that the club made a £17.5 million bid for Hoffenheim central defender Niklas Sule, but the German 21-year-old is set to turn down the Londoners in favour of a move to Bayern Munich which is expected to be completed in the summer.
Following in the footsteps of a new contract for Leonardo Bonucci, Antonio Conte has had little luck in his pursuit of a central defender to add quality and depth to his backline.
Therefore, it is of even greater importance that the club retains the services of Andreas Christensen, currently out on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach. The Dane was wanted by the club permanently in the summer, half way through his two year loan, and also attracted interest from Barcelona, but his father revealed:
“Chelsea would like Andreas back, and they have wanted to for a long time. As it is right now, he’s back at Chelsea again this summer. He will not return to Chelsea and sit on the bench. If Chelsea buy ten central defenders, it may well be that we need to do something else.”
The 20-year-old has been a huge hit in the Bundesliga and has not missed a minute of football in the Bundesliga when fit and available for selection this season.
