Chelsea could target ‘extraordinary’ 26-year-old from English club

Journalist Alex Crook has suggested that Chelsea could consider a move for Kyle Walker-Peters amid concerns over Reece James.

There is unfortunately a question mark over the Chelsea skipper. Reece James underwent surgery on a hamstring injury in December. And it is not yet clear when he will return for Mauricio Pochettino‘s side.

So perhaps they may look onto the market for cover in that position, and perhaps Pochettino may look to a player he already knows extremely well.

Chelsea could look at Kyle Walker-Peters

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Crook has suggested that Kyle Walker-Peters may be approaching the Southampton exit at some stage – and Chelsea may become a player in the race to sign him from St Mary’s.

“When it comes to Walker-Peters, there is no sign of him signing a new contract. I think they thought there would be more Premier League interest than there was in the summer. They didn’t get a single bid,” he said.

“I mentioned West Ham being interested a few weeks ago because they are definitely looking for right-back cover. Even Chelsea could come into it, with Reece James’ injury problems.”

A decent option for Pochettino

Walker-Peters has proved to be an outstanding signing for the Saints. He is approaching 150 appearances for the club, and has the ability to play at both right-back and left-back.

And he may perhaps relish the chance to link up with Pochettino again. The Argentinian managed the 26-year-old at Tottenham, once backing him for a very bright future in the Spurs side.

Ultimately, he struggled for game-time with the amount of quality Tottenham had at right-back.

He has been labelled an ‘extraordinary‘ player by former Saints boss Ruben Selles. And he has provided 10 assists in 115 Premier League games during his career.

So if Southampton are open to selling him, perhaps it would not be the worst idea for Chelsea to seriously consider making a move this month or in the summer.
