TBR Football understand Chelsea are keeping a close eye on Samuel Omorodion Aghehowa – also known as Samu – ahead of the transfer deadline.

The Blues are monitoring forwards across Europe for Enzo Maresca amid doubts over some of those already at Stamford Bridge.

TBR Football understand Chelsea are open to selling Christopher Nkunku before the February 3rd transfer deadline – while Joao Felix could also depart west London.

Amid doubts over the France international and the Portugal international, sources close to the situation have now informed TBR Football that Samu could be targeted by Chelsea.

Chelsea closely monitoring Samu

Graeme Bailey – Chief Correspondent at TBR Football – has now been informed that Chelsea are keeping a close eye on the Spain international.

As you may recall, Samu was a target for Chelsea last summer, and was due to move to Stamford Bridge as part of the deal which saw Conor Gallagher join Atletico Madrid.

However, the switch stalled, and Chelsea eventually took Felix from the Spanish outfit instead.

Samu ended up joining Porto – with the Portuguese giants paying an initial €15m (£12.6m) to Atletico Madrid – and the man born in Melilla has been a sensation so far this season.

The 20-year-old has already scored 18 goals in 25 appearances for Porto, while also providing two assists, with two of those strikes coming against Manchester United in the UEFA Europa League.

TBR Football understand Chelsea scouts were very excited about Samu’s potential last summer, and remain captivated by what the Spanish wonderkid is doing at Porto.

Sources add that agreeing a deal with Porto before the February 3rd transfer deadline will be difficult, although the Primeira Liga outfit are not in the best financial position right now.

Therefore, it is understood Porto could be tempted into selling Samu for a lot less than his €100m (£84m) release clause – either now or in the summer transfer window too.

Chelsea could sign the new Diego Costa in Samu

Chelsea fans may be interested in the fact Samu has been compared to Diego Costa – who scored 59 goals in 120 appearances for the Blues.

It was actually Diego Simeone who made the comparison, although the Chelsea target is keen to put his own name up in lights, retorting: “Being compared to a player who has made history at Atleti is always appreciated, but I am Samu, and I want to write my own story.”
