Chelsea could actually sack Mauricio Pochettino if one thing happens this week

The pressure is on Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea after losing the Carabao Cup last Sunday, and there’s now a chance he could get sacked this week.

The Blues faced a Liverpool side who were missing a number of their key players. Chelsea weren’t awful by any means, but they didn’t take their chances and ended up losing the game. Many fans have been calling for Pochettino’s job since.

Mauricio Pochettino could get sacked if Chelsea lose to Leeds United

Chelsea have had a really disappointing season, haven’t they?

The Blues have spent an absolute fortune on their squad in recent seasons, but they are nowhere near where they should be after splashing so much money.

Mauricio Pochettino‘s side are currently 11th in the table, having picked up just 35 points from their first 25 games in the Premier League.

That is an awful record, and their best chance of silverware was also squandered last weekend against a fairly young Liverpool side.

Up next for Chelsea is an FA Cup clash against Leeds United. Pochettino’s men will go into the game as favourites, but if they lose again, the Argentine is likely to be sacked.

That’s according to Dean Jones, who said on GiveMeSport: “This is a massive loss (Carabao Cup final). You don’t get a better chance to beat Liverpool than to come up against a side missing as many players as they were at Wembley.

“They got away with Moises Caicedo‘s tackle and the Virgil van Dijk VAR goal, and when their chances came along they just couldn’t take them. That’s hard to accept – and made harder by the fact they didn’t go for the kill in extra-time when Liverpool were fielding youngsters that many people literally would never have heard of.

“The late defeat has been described as pathetic and they are being labelled bottle jobs and now they have to take on Leeds United, one of their oldest rivals in the game.

“Leeds will come to London believing they can cause an upset and if they do then Pochettino is probably going to be facing the sack. It could become a truly disastrous week.”

Time is running out for Pochettino at Chelsea

It was always a risk to appoint Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea.

The Argentine’s Tottenham connections didn’t sit well with many supporters, and to make things worse, his poor decisions are costing the side.

The atmosphere at Chelsea is turning toxic now, and once that starts to happen, every football fan knows the manager’s days are numbered.

If Pochettino wants to have any chance of keeping his job, he needs to turn things around in a big way. That should start against Leeds United on Thursday.
