The Sun sensationally claim that Diego Costa has called a truce with Antonio Conte and his coaching team after a row over his fitness, but has decided to leave the club in the future. The Spanish international has ruled out any chance of him signing a new deal at Stamford Bridge with a summer move expected and Chinese Super League Tianjin Quanjian leading the pack to sign him.
Costa’s existing contract has two and a half years left to run but the Blues will be expected to cash in on him in the summer if he does try to force a move as they will want to make money from his sale rather than allow him to run down his contract and leave for free. The striker was back in training yesterday whilst his teammates enjoyed time off, having trained at home for much of the week after the bust-up.
The club are looking for greater additions to their front line in an attempt to make up for a potential exit with a new interest surfacing in wantaway West Ham star Dimitri Payet, say the Sun. The Frenchman has demanded an exit from the London Stadium and is refusing to play, with the Blues reportedly not deterred by the £40 million asking price which could scupper a move to Marseille.
The 29-year-old is said to be hoping to return to France but a megabucks move across the capital could tempt him if Chelsea can maintain their hopes of winning the title this season.
One man looking very likely to join is former Russia and CSKA Moscow boss Leonid Slutsky, who was spotted at the game between Chelsea and Leicester City at the weekend and is expected to be handed a role as an analyst at the club this week according to Metro, who cite the Sun.
Slutsky has impressive pedigree in management given his success in Moscow on a domestic scale, so his experience will be a welcome addition to Conte’s staff even if the move has been arranged by Roman Abramovich.
