Chelsea: Battle for Rodriguez; Bayern challenge bid for defender; new contract for winger

Chelsea could be set to fight it out with Manchester United in a race for £63 million rated midfielder James Rodriguez as the Colombian nears ever closer to the exit door at Real Madrid. The Express claim that the Blues made an approach for him in the summer but were unsuccessful and may now return with another bid.

Rodriguez has started just three La Liga games under Zinedine Zidane this season amid speculation that the two have fallen out with the Frenchman less than impressed by his attitude in training and when given first team opportunities, with club president Florentino Perez reluctantly accepting that he may have to sell.

Antonio Conte has switched his attentions from Italy to Germany in his hunt for a central defender to add depth to his defence, with a battle with Bayern Munich on the cards for Hoffenheim man Niklas Sule, say the Mirror. The 22-year-old made his debut for the club two years ago and is currently thriving in a back three similar to that deployed by Conte.

The German is also being monitored by Everton and could be a long term replacement for John Terry with his strength and aerial ability drawing comparisons, with many claiming that he will go on to be a great defensive leader in the mould of the club captain.

Sky Sports claim that sporting director Michael Emenalo has been so impressed by Victor Moses’ performances that he will offer him a new contract to ward off interest from Barcelona in the Nigerian international, whose current deal will expire in 2019.

With three goals in 12 Premier League games, Moses has been in great form for his club since adapting to a new role in Antonio Conte’s system as a right wing back and is thriving at Stamford Bridge under the Italian.
