Chelsea and Manchester United make January bids for ‘special’ £100m striker

Both Manchester United and Chelsea have made audacious bids to sign Brighton striker Evan Ferguson this month.

United and Chelsea are both in the market for a new number nine and it looks like their search has led them towards Ferguson again.

The Republic or Ireland star is one of the most in-demand young talents in Europe after starring for Brighton last season as a teenager, with clubs like Arsenal keen. However, this season has been a bit slower, with Roberto de Zerbi going with other options ahead of Ferguson more often than not.

And according to Football Transfers, Chelsea and Man United have tried to take advantage of his lack of minutes by making loan offers this month.

Chelsea and Manchester United make bids for Evan Ferguson

According to the report, the Premier League giants have both offered to take Ferguson on loan this January to help their squads.

Unsurprisingly, those offers have been knocked back by Brighton, who will simply insist on a straight big-money sale if they do decide to move Ferguson on.

The young striker only signed a new contract not so long ago and is valued at around the £100m mark by the Seagulls.

Lauded as a ‘special‘ talent by former strikers such as Alan Shearer, Ferguson is destined for a big career in the Premier League.

However, a loan move right now will not be happening, despite United and Chelsea’s audacious attempts here.

A move in waiting

Evan Ferguson is just the next one on the list really when it comes to Brighton and selling their top stars.

We saw Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo move on in the summer and Ferguson is likely to be next, alongside someone like Joao Pedro or Pervis Estupinian.

Brighton will continue with that model and rightly so.

Quite why United or Chelsea thought they’d lend them Ferguson, though, is another matter. There was simply no way this was happening and just about sums up where those two clubs are right now in terms of transfer plans.
